Although Oasis Parcs Punt-West is topographically in the province of South Holland, it is geographically part of the islands of Zeeland. The island of Goeree-Overflakkee nearby Zeeland, is known as an island of sun, sea and tranquility. The Grevelingen lake & Brouwersdam
Grevelingen lake, covering an area of 110 km2, is one of the most popular water sports areas of the Netherlands. It's characteristics are the natural banks, the numerous islands and the mudflats of Flakkee (Slikken van Flakkee). On the mudflats of Flakkee you will find a very special flora and fauna, especially the Fjord-horses and Heck-cattle. At the lake there are many authentic fishing villages to visit.
In the surrounding waters much seafood is to be found; lobster, oysters, cockles and mussels. The oysters and lobsters characterize this area and are known worldwide for their high quality.
Grevelingen lake is concluded by the Brouwersdam, which functions as a kilometer long dam and beach between the North Sea and the Grevelingen lake and is the connection between South Holland and Zeeland. You can even spot porpoises and seals here.
Cultural and culinary suprises
The resort also offers the perfect place to get out on the bike. The historic and picturesque towns and villages like Ouddorp, Middelburg, Dirksland and Oude-Tonge are within reach. Here you will find a great range of shops. And within half an hour by car you are in the historic center of Middelburg, on the waterfront of Veere or in the shopping center of Goes. The numerous restaurants on the island offer a culinary journey and will let you meet the unique local products of the island.
The fish auction at the port of Ouddorp, a 5 minutes’ drive, is a true delight. Here the fresh fish is sold in a traditional way. You can also visit an oyster farm or the small vineyard De Schorre.
Goedereede gives you the opportunity to visit several museums such as the TowerMuseum, which was built between 1492 and 1522. Also visit the Streekmuseum Goeree-Overflakkee where impressive exhibitions are held on the history of the island and the province.
